Nikki Tierney

Nikki is an IAF Certified Professional Facilitator™ specialising in digital facilitation, collaborative spaces and the virtual environment.

She helps people work together effectively to solve problems and deliver work. In recent years she has focused on supporting clients in the move away from pen, paper and post-it into modern collaborative working toolkits.

Her work includes:

  • Design and delivery of virtually facilitated workshops including industry consultations, project launches, planning sessions, board meetings and academic research.
  • Training in collaborative practices, theory and toolkits.
  • Leadership development programmes emphasising change through modern working practices.
  • Consultancy, teaching and training in the application of digital collaboration tools, including instructional design.

Stand out projects from Nikki’s resumé include opening and operation of the Innovation Hub at the Oil & Gas Technology Centre in Aberdeen, where she turned an empty basement into the most advanced facilitative workshop space in the country. Prior to that she led the integration of facilitative skills into the performance management of major capital projects including a £160m refrigeration refurbishment at BP Kinneil and the £180m refurbishment of the BP ETAP oil & gas platform. On both projects this led to effective data management, workflows and attainment reporting, coupled with healthy collaborative communication across contractor and client teams.

In addition to her facilitative work, Nikki developed a parallel career as an expedition leader. She has led complete novices on high altitude treks in Ecuador and Peru, as well as lowland treks in Mongolia, Spain and Scotland. Occasionally Nikki still works with clients in an outdoor setting, which can be particularly effective in helping them disconnect from technology and develop their analogue, human connections.

Nikki is a Certified Professional Facilitator™ with the International Association of Facilitators, a Fellow of the Institute of Trailing and Occupational Learning and a member of the Mountain Training Association.
